Overall I have not had any unusual issues with cropping as you have discussed.Have you set the 6 height adjustment "feet" on the slide holder to be for the proper distance and "Best Focus". That occurred for images that "really filled the frame".

Thanks. Include the borders in your scan and then later crop them out in Photoshop or some other program.See a comparison in the cropping areas below for the exact same slide.
